The two leaders agreed to work together to win the 2022 poll as they had no option other than uniting in the face of emerging obstacles.
DP Ruto and Raila joined hands weeks after the formation of One Kenya Alliance bringing together party leaders Musalia Mudavadi of ANC, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya, Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper and Gideon Moi of KANU.
The new alliance jolted Raila’s allies with with several MPs openly declaring a political union between the ODM leader and DP Ruto.
“The two feel slighted by Uhuru and his people. Uhuru has thrown DP Ruto out of the Jubilee bus and is now supporting the One Kenya Alliance behind Raila’s back
“If you factor in Raila’s almost cultic following and Ruto’s campaign energy, then you automatically know it’s the winning team,” the source added.
The source also revealed that during the meetings, it took a lot of horse-trading and shrewd bargaining to have DP Ruto accept to deputise Raila.
It also emerged that the former prime minister’s side promised to have Raila go for only one term and thereafter support DP Ruto in 2027 poll.
