Just hours after arriving in Nairobi for the upcoming Wasafi Festival, Diamond Platnumz and his crew held a brief press conference where they publicly apologized to the BASATA and the Tanzanian government for disobeyed a direct order. In the press conference, the famous Bongo artist admitted that it was wrong for them to perform Mwanza (Nyegezi) after it had been banned by the BASATA.
“Kila nchi ina taratibu na kanuni zake, na pia sisi katika mziki wetu Tanzania tuna taratibu na kanuni zetu. So tulifanya nyimbo inaitwa mwanza na ikawa hairuhusiwi huko Tanzania kwa sababu ilikuwa inaonekana ina maneno ya kuonaniliwa,” he said.
Diamond seemed to understand his big influence not only in Tanzania but also in East Africa at large. His apology was, therefore, a bold move to admit that he was wrong, even with such power over people.
“Sisi tuna influence kubwa, na the more we perform the more wimbo itasambaa sana…”
Many have admitted that Diamond’s press conference is one of the most mature things he has ever done, and not letting his celebrity mindset prevent him from doing what’s right is a get plus on his musical influence.
Naamini kila serikali ina sheria, na haziwekwi kumdimiza mtu yeyote… Ni za kuangalia maslahi ya nchi na kila mtu kwa jumla.”
The Kwangwaru ended the press conference by warning other artists to learn from his experience and follow the law. He also encouraged his fans to buy tickets for the upcoming Wasafi festivals in Embu and Mombasa early enough.
