Kiss FM’s Jalango opened up about his school life and the tough journey of getting to complete his education despite his humble background.
In an interview with MC Jessy on how he lost all hope after he got a chance to join Maseno School.
He said, “So niko na acceptance letter ya maseno school, my dad is very happy that his son is going to change the whole narrative of the family.”
‘Babu, I miss you already,’ Grandson of Moi’s confidant pays tribute
“Akafungua the letter akaangalia vitu zinatakikana zote, from slasher, hockey stick, sets of uniform… by the time alikuwa anafika chini the only thing he could afford there, was to read that letter. By the time alikuwa anafika kwa school fees nguvu ilimwishia.”
Jalango narrated how his father rallied people for a Harambee so as to raise money to take him to school.
“By the time he was getting the money, which was not even the full amount, tukienda maseno it was almost two months after others had joined, time ilikuwa imeenda. Tunafika tukaambiwa hapa ata watoto walianza kusoma kitamboo kitamboo sana ata term one inaisha.”
What a son! DJ Mo builds bungalow for his reunited parents
So he wasn’t able to join the prestigious high school.
“That was one of the saddest points in my life when I saw my dad cry. I had never seen my dad cry, for the first time I saw my old man, Edward, shed tears as we dragged my box and everything as we went to the road and I saw him cry for the first time, this was his only hope and only chance that his son will be here to change the whole narrative of his family. The family and everybody looked up to us.”
His father had been so determined to educate him and even after he lacked the chance to join Maseno Secondary School, he still joined Barkanyango school in Bondo District.
