Diamond Platnumz is having a rough week after the Baraza La Sanaa La Taifa (BASATA) slapped him with a harsh ban that prohibits him from performing on concerts in and outside Tanzania. With the highly anticipated Kenyan Wasafi Festival just a few days away, Diamond and his crew may be forced to cancel the event or otherwise face criminal prosecution with possible life imprisonment.
However, the Wasafi king may already have predicted this would happen, and many rumors have spread that Diamond’s engagement to Kenyan NRG Radio presenter, Tanasha Donna, was not a coincidence. Many have speculated that Diamond Platnumz plans to marry Tanasha soon and through their marriage, get automatic citizenship in Kenya. With a valid Kenyan citizenship, Diamond would easily continue making his music and advancing his career.
Diamond Platnumz is not new to music bans. Just last year, the Kwangwaru hitmaker was hit by another harsh ruling that saw 7 of his songs banned in Tanzania. In 2018, after releasing his hit song, Mwanza (Nyegezi) featuring Rayvanny, the infamous Bongo king was slapped with another ban on moral grounds. The ban was followed by the recent ruling by the BASATA which prohibited him from performing in and outside Tanzania.
“Diamond Platnumz and his team have developed a tendency of using sexually-offensive language in their songs, and while performing on stage,” explained the executive secretary of the BASATA, Mr. Onesmo Kayanda. “We’ve tried reaching out to him thrice – and even issued stern warnings to the musician, but he has been elusive and ungovernable. We decided to rein in on him. We have reached a decision to stop him from performing because we want to show him that authorities must be respected.”
Diamond is surrounded by many smart people, among them, his manager, Babu Tale. All these great minds may have influenced the Tanzanian Bongo king to establish a relationship with Tanasha Donna in an attempt to get a valid Kenyan citizenship. While these are still rumors for now, the case against Mr. Platnumz is an epic Deja Vu moment for many. Just a few months ago, Diamond’s relationship with Ugandan socialite, Zari Hassan, saw him get a citizenship in South Africa.
Diamond Platnumz has, time and again, shown his interest in selling his music in Kenya through interviews and public shows. In the end, this could all be a game of shadows for him, and so far, he has played his cards quite right. But only time can surely tell.
In their latest News, Tanasha Donna and her husband to be have deleted all their photos online in what they are calling “keeping their relationship private”.
