Nairobi governor Mike Sonko was overpowered by emotions during his late mother’s memorial service.
The ceremony, which was a private affair took place at their Mua home, in Machakos county.

It is 23 years today since an angel flew to heaven, to rest in eternity with our Father in Heaven. Though gone, it still feels like yesterday, and the light of your candle and the warmth of your love continues to shine our paths. We will forever cherish you in our hearts, and continue to be guided by your love and teachings. May you continue resting with the angels and watching over us Mom.

The controversial politician lost his father Gideon Kioko in September 2015.
The governor’s firstborn daughter Saumu shared a photo of her late grandmother and captioned it,
‘Continue resting with the angels.’
