The government banned public gatherings including going to church but some churches defied the order and went ahead with their normal services.
Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) founded by Allan and Kathy Kiuna conducted its services as usual on Sunday, March 22.
In a post she shared on her Instagram account a few hours before the Sunday service, Reverend Kathy Kiuna said that they had put in place measures to protect their congregation from contracting Covid-19.
Jcc parklands. All ready, rules observed and set to give hope. With God, nothing shall be impossible,’ she posted.
The service was broadcasted live on K24 TV and JCC’s Facebook page.
A section of Kenyans online have bashed the religious couple together with their church for not taking Covid-19 seriously.
Reactions from Kenyans include;
Ogutu Robert So you are announcing that #CoronavirusPandemic will take a 2-hour break this Sunday? Cool
Masaku Its common sense not to congregate coz of the corona outbreak. The church is in people’s hearts but because of GREED,you’re endangering lives.God gave us BRAINS to utilise. Doomed!!!
Mwalimu Njoroge Even Daniel was found praying privately in his room before being thrown into the lion’s den. Why endanger the population to prove your supposed spiritual muscle?
Bernad Okioma Sadaka mbele
Kunta Kinte Prosperity pastors who can’t live without the congregate tithe. These wolves in sheep skin don’t care about you, they care about your money. Look how fat and unhealthy they are from your money.
Like a rushing wind, Jesus breathe within.
Lord have Your way, Lord have Your way in me

Sylvester Odero Leo sadaka ni less than thao
njenga.danny This Country has NO capacity like China,UK,USA and other superpowers..why don’t we pray at home prevention is better. We can still send our offerings Via mpesa.
Tony Seems @MOH_Kenya @MutahiKagwe were stupid when they said we should avoid crowded places. Now these greedy stupid pastors are out to make money while endangering lives.
loymburia This is naked! I was not expecting this from you Madam. Those are more than 50 seats in that room! Please be a good example and stop misguiding people.
Moccku Australia all churches closed down and we are meeting online. All clubs, hotels and other meeting places are all shut. Today the interstate borders have closed, people are not working from offices etc..if such countries are taking all this measures honestly, what about kenya…may God give us SERENITY to accept the things we cannot change and the wisdom to just understand the difference
imeru_wambui I thought churches and Mosques got closed.. Can we just please follow the instructions put in place.
njerimasimane But people will come in through the same doors probably not one by one and use public transport etc. This is a good move but it’s better to just not have physical meetings at all.
wahitotravels It is still possible to worship and preach online…it does not undermine the power of God…hope we don’t regret this
zeddey This is not the solution it will still spread. Y’all need to do online services. COVID-19 stays on surfaces for more than 24 hours.
shikocathy Why not preach online? Who knows who got what?smh
loymburia Madam Kathy, this pandemic is reall I wish you are in my country you see how pple are dying! Stop going to church for few months is not an offense please. Stay at home and pray from home. Am very mad coz I work in a hospital and I know how other pple are feeling when they burry their family members every day! And yet someone is convincing pple to go to church to pray
kamothodiana I live in Germany and everything is on lockdown. Even play parks are closed and kids are forced to stay home. Not because we are sick, but to slow down the spread and avoid an Italy situation. Please preach online and collect offering via Mpesa. Wisdom is profitable to direct. Kenya doesn’t have the resources to handle Corona
marionolack Mummy and daddy church… Please please preach online, we don’t want to lose lives because of your greed.. Let people stay home’mummy’!
breanajnims2018 Im sorry for this but you are a church, first your not obeying the president, you’re going against. know that by disobeying, God can strike you with corona ..yu shud be telling pple to watch yu from home but sijui unataka wakuje kwanini?people take care of yourself, God still hears you from home
preciousfuraha_diamond This is wrong on so many levels, please stop this and have online services. You are putting the whole congregation at risk!
miriam.njesh The level of ignorance is scaring, is anyone aware of the Italy situation? Do you know how many priests they have lost? And how many hundred are dying forget about being infected?
